Description

Improving occupational safety and health (OSH) and access to social protection for workers in the agri-business sectors” is a project funded by ENI S.p.a and implemented by the ILO. The project aims to identify and address the bottlenecks to improved safety and health and access to social health protection for farmers and workers in the castor bean value chain in Kenya and in the rubber seed value chain in Ivory Coast. This project is a pioneering initiative bringing together the ILO’s OSH and social protection experts to support key stakeholders of the supply chains. It will allow for the development of interventions for improvement in these areas, based on the results of a value chain assessment. The expected outcomes of the project are as follows: 1) strategies to improve OSH and access to social health protection for workers in the agri-business sectors are developed by tripartite constituents; 2) employers, workers and their representatives in the agri-business sectors are empowered to improve OSH practices and health promotion at the sector and workplace level; 3) actors of the selected value chains are empowered to enhance social protection coverage of workers in the agri-business, in particular in the area of social health protection.
