At a minimum, according to the international social security minimum standard, family benefits should be granted at least until the child(ren) reach(es) the age of 15 years or is of school-leaving age as prescribed by the national legislation If the school leaving age prescribed by law is 18 years, then family benefits should be provided until the age of 18. After this age, there is no international legal requirement to provide child benefits. It is however an international trend and good practice to provide family benefits even throughout university studies or indefinitely if the child is disabled.

5 Under C102, an employee could claim to receive family benefits after 12 months of contribution or employment or after 3 years of residence, as applicable.
