The 2011/12 budget adopted by Parliament in June 2011 announced the introduction of a National Employment Guarantee Scheme, employment injury benefits, maternity benefits and sickness Benefits. The 2010/11 budget, adopted by Parliament in 2010, covered the Social Security Law and unemployment insurance benefit. In March 2011, a Social Security Fund was established and members of the Board were appointed.
ILO's contribution to the outcome
In collaboration with national constituents, drafted the Social Security Organization Act, the Unemployment Insurance Act, and a National Framework on Social Protection. Provided technical support in close collaboration with the tripartite constituents. Sensitization on importance of social security and capacity building of constituents through study tours (e.g. visit to Indian Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, training course at Turin Centre) and workshops.
