ILO's contribution to the outcome

In May 2016, ILO started working with SESSI in the backdrop of providing long-term compensation to the victims of 2012 factory fire in Ali Enterprises (Baldia Town). The international buyer, M/s KiK Textiles from Germany agree to provide USD 5.15 million for the long-term compensation of families. In addition, the Government of German (BMZ) provided USD 1.7 million for capacity development of SESSI and operationalizing long-term compensation system. Under this arrangement, technical support was provided to SESSI to upgrade its management and governance systems, build capacity of its staff and adopt computer-based systems for swift processing and decision-making of compensation cases. In addition, ILO also modelled the engagement of beneficiaries through counselling and consultative sessions.
