Outcome achieved

Development of plan and legislation setting up the Institut National de l’Assurance Maladie (INAM). Government adopts law for the creation of the INAM in February 2011. The new scheme will provide health coverage, with progressive extension to all of the population.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

Provided support for the development of the policy strategy options for the extension and the financing of the extension. Various workshops organized to inform stakeholders. Prepared the feasibility study on the INAM, which was adopted by the tripartite members of the Comité de pilotage. Provided support in the drafting of the legal texts for the implementation of the new scheme. Trained staff for the new institution. Provided technical support to the Comité de pilotage through workshops which defined the scheme.
