Employers' Consultative Association of Malawi lobbies for ratification of ILO Convention 102 (Minimum Social Security Standards) 1952

The Employers' Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAM) has urged the Government to ratify the ILO Convention 102 (minimum Social Security Standards) of 1952 to strengthen government efforts on extending social protection in Malawi. 

ECAM annually hosts the Employers of the Year Awards to honor employers demonstrating a strong commitment to promoting decent work. The 2024 awards ceremony took place on 6 December in Blantyre under the theme “Strengthening Social Protection in the Time of Global Economic Uncertainty.” Award categories included labour law compliance, industrial relations, occupational safety and health, youth employment, child labour elimination, and social protection, which was recognized as “a crucial matter to be prioritized” for the development of the country by Anne Chavula, President, ECAM.

The ILO provided technical and financial assistance to support ECAM.
