The project is engaged in the support of the piloting of the planned merger of schemes and extension of coverage in Vang Vieng District (Vientiane Province) which subsidizes the health insurance contributions of informal sector workers (at 50 % of cost). The pilot should help to assess operational requirements and to produce lessons learnt for rolling out the scheme throughout the country.
The objective of the piloting of contribution subsidies is to assess the impact such subsidies can have on the coverage of Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI), and notably whether subsidization of contributions can impact positively on enrolment figures and hence on the extension of coverage of the insured under the national health insurance scheme, i.e. the membership under the CBHIs catering to the informal sector population in the Lao PDR.
